Summer has arrived and the long weekend is upon us, and as I can't escape the city for it it means patios, cold beer and cheap eats. The Dew Drop Inn in Edgewood more than fits the bill. Nestled between a side street and Metro tracks (yes, really), at the tip of the Metropolitan Branch Trail, this old brick hut delivers more than impressive bar food with an enviable beer selection, it's a no frills kind of place, shabby without the chic.

I had only ever heard of Dew Drop Inn in passing, I never really knew where it was or what it was until my roommate started cycling by it and suggested we go, if you have ever been to Wonderland Ballroom in Columbia Heights you'll find it extremely familiar, and that's what got me, the ease and familiarity of the place, it even has a trivia night.

There's a lot on the menu you'd expect - grilled cheese, pulled pork (Carolina!), mac n' cheese and chili, as well as a selection of sandwiches, but there's a few things you wouldn't. Should a crisp glass of wine be your choice of beverage then it can be paired with a plate of country paté, brie and olives. Just don't expect to be wowed by presentation. If like me it's a beer you're after then pair it with the nachos, topped with pork, pickled jalapenos and covered in cheese that forms that neat little film across it when it sits for too long.

If you needed anymore convincing, the receipt below should do it, you read that right - saison, tequila, pork nachos, ALL on happy hour. And a gentle reminder that we here in DC are continually fucked over.
