You've got to hand it to the team at Drink Company, they know how to deliver, in less than five days they transformed their Cherry Blossom pop-up bar into a regal Royal Wedding. Unlike past pop-up transformations it's only Eat the Rich that is open to become St George's Chapel, which might turn out to be a mistake if the crowds from opening weekend are anything to go by (I suspect the other two bars are being prepped for the summer pop-up installment that will no doubt come in June). It's a pretty impressive turnover, this Brit was impressed.

But before you ask, just because I carry a British passport I do not know any members of the Royal Household, and it didn't get me any perks. I'll be having words.

I've visited a few of the past pop-ups on 7th and I've never left without dropping a tidy Benjamin on a few rounds of drinks, spend a couple of hours here and you will too. But you go for the experience, not just the drinks. Gotta step up that #selfie game.

Dining: Service Bar DC

December 13, 2016 Russell W. Warnick

Caprese Salad with Fried Chicken

Cocktails and fried chicken. I’ll say that again, cocktails and fried chicken, that’s the gist of the menu at Service Bar, one of the latest spots to open up in the U St/Shaw neighborhood. Despite its size, SBDC packs a punch, a menu of drinks that isn’t overwhelming, with detailed ingredients and icons for each drink to let you know if it's carbonated, strong or even which glass it will be served in, perfect for those of us wanting to avoid the coupe, yes I’m that guy.

Drinks: Cava Mezze

The ever expanding restaurant scene in Washington inevitably brings with it the ever expanding, and sophisticated cocktail menu, with Cava Mezze being no exception. Glendon Hartley helms the bar across the Cava restaurants, who you may know from BlackSalt, Lost Society and my office favorite, Founding Farmers.

I was invited for an evening of imbibing on Cava's Capitol Hill rooftop, a beautiful spot overlooking Barracks Row. The cocktails offer a twist on old favorites, Hartley brings a fresh and unique approach - the Huele De Noche (smell of night, thanks Google translate) brings together Angostura Bitters to provide balance to the sweetness of the Patron Blanco Tequila, mixed with fresh squeezed lime and coconut. As someone who can't nor shouldn't drink tequila straight up or stomach more than one margarita for being too sweet it was a nice alternative use of tequila.
